Workout Wednesday

Yesterday I was standing in the kitchen at work when a colleague came in and asked if I had any plans for the long weekend.  To which I replied, what long weekend? (don’t laugh, this is the world I live in).  It took me a minute to realize that Memorial Day is coming up (and thank you to our service men and women).  I may have yelped a little and if it wouldn’t have been at all inappropriate, I’d have hugged him for delivering this most awesome of news 🙂

All that said, I have absolutely nothing to do this weekend (ok, that’s not entirely true…) but the weather is going to be perfect and springlike so being outside is a must!!  I do have my First Aid/CPR class on Saturday afternoon but otherwise plan to enjoy the outdoors and some workout activities. Plus my final long run before ZOOMA next week!

perhaps more of this??

perhaps more of this??

As a blogger and active member of the DC community I’ve been fortunate enough to be offered opportunities to try out some classes and fitness centers.  So today is “Workout Wednesday” my round up of some prior reviews and places to get my sweat on in the city.  Perhaps that’ll inspire my weekend activities:

Roam Fitness DC – it would be blasphemy if I didn’t start here.  I tried Outrun at a blogger event last summer and have been addicted ever since!  I also took Barbell (now called Pro+Fuse) and attended some special themed Outruns.  I now personal train here and absolutely love this “gym”.

OutrunCore Power Yoga – yes the weather is getting a little warmer so my inclination to do hot yoga is less and less but I love Core Power.  The class with weights gives you that extra kick with upbeat tunes.

Pure Ryde DC – I had never taken spinning before until Ingrid Nelson stepped in.  🙂  She is an awesome (gosh I say that a lot) instructor.  I’m dying to try the Pilates Reformer class here as well.

Pure RydeAnd for another spin studio I haven’t been able to try, check out my BRF Courtney’s review of Revolve DC.

KICK Fitness! – what makes KICK a unique experience is it’s a part of apartment community living.  Yes, you have to be a resident of the facility, though outsiders can personal train, but what a concept.  I hope other apartment facilities and office spaces catch on!

And who can forget my adventures in Rock Climbing??? haha…

wallYoga Hikes DC – I tried this out last summer and loved it.  Combining yoga with hiking is such a brilliant idea!  Danielle of Yoga Hikes even linked up with us last week!  I’ll definitely be joining in on the Yoga Hikes fun this season, if not this weekend.

mea_yogahikeGet Lean Life – when I needed some nutritional help, Marina of Get Lean Life was the one to call.  After trying the first 2 weeks of her 12 weeks to Fabulous program, I’m going to continue on with it and let you all know my progress here.   AND if you are interested in the 12 week program yourself, Marina is offering 50% OFF to all my readers (just $75 for a $150 value).  Email: info@getleanlife.com and tell her ‘Mar on the Run’ sent you!

As I bid you Happy Hump Day, if you want to join our Friday Five link up the theme this week is:  5 Places I’d Like to Run!  If you aren’t a runner, pick your own topic for the week or put your own spin on it! 🙂

  1. I wish we had lots of fun classes to offer in our small town, but unfortunately, due to the size we are limited. There is a good active community that likes to get together for bike rides and runs. I really like climbing walls, such a great way to workout your upper body but it feels more like fun than work 🙂

  2. YOGA HIKE? I want to do this! Good thing I’m not too far from DC! You have some great options down there. 🙂

And I feel you on hot yoga in the summer. I still go, but man…it’s gross leaving there and having it be the same temperature outside.

  3. Hi Marlesa,
I’m the fellow SPA who just asked for some clarification on “Friday Five” on our FB group page. Just read through a couple of your posts — I get it now!!
When I was traveling for work a ton, I used to ALWAYS be shocked to learn (usually Friday after 5pm) that there was a long weekend. HAHAHA Talk about wrapped up in your work, right?
Have a great Memorial Day weekend. I’m also a fellow runner, so I’ll see you at this week’s Friday Five 🙂
Stop by my blog & say hello anytime!
    Take care,
    Karen
