Week 15: Motivation (+ a Giveaway!)

Inside of a week to the Marine Corps Marathon and I’m pretty excited. I’m almost in disbelief I made it through 15 weeks. MCM one weekLast week I dealt with some knee issues so to avoid any setbacks or injury I focused on bike and yoga (well, and because Jake told me to!). I’m still going to take it easy this week and the stress of work has come and gone so ready to focus on what’s next. Quick recap of Week 15:

  • Monday: 30 minutes bike
  • Tuesday: Sports Massage – ooh, ow, yes
  • Wednesday: Personal Training w/Jake – upper body
  • Thursday: REST
  • Friday: Yoga Tone @ Mind Your Body Oasis
  • Saturday:  60 minutes bike
  • Sunday: Yoga Sculpt at Core Power (thank you Class Pass!)

It’s been a little hard to stay calm but I’ve worked hard these past few months and the marathon prize is just around the corner. As I move towards this milestone race I often carry my personal motivational mantras with me. Whether it’s just repeating over and over in my head or have it in hand somehow I believe they are truly helpful.

One of those mantras is “Just Keep Going” which I listed here the last Friday Five where we themed motivation. On a more personal level it’s simply “Faith”. I have a few pieces I wear with this one word and helps keep me grounded and focused in all matters of life.  Faith

Recently I discovered Words to Sweat By which offers motivational fitness jewelry and humorous fitness apparel.  When Dana, CEO and designer, reached out to me I was so excited to be introduced to them. Given where I was in the marathon training cycle the timing couldn’t have been better – feeling I needed all the motivation I could get. Disclaimer: I was provided with 2 wrap bracelets to try, any opinions of course are my own.

I ordered a custom wrap with the motivational mantra “Just Keep Going” and simply, “Faith”: WordstoSweatBy

I wore “Just Keep Going” on my PR distance run of 17 miles – which was a fairly happy day (relatively) And “Faith” is always with me. JustKeepGoing

  1. this is an awesome giveaway. this marathon will be my first and I am pumped to knock a marathon off my bucket list (but of course nervous at the same time). i think my biggest running mantra is Let Go (from the Garden State Soundtrack but I swear the song is just amazing!)

  2. my running mantra for races is “run your own race” a lot of the time – if i let my mind wander to what other people are doing, how fast they’re going, what gear they brought, i’ll panic and lose my zen and start thinking about how much it hurts or my breathing will get all wonky – so i just shut that out and say “run your own race, girl.” and there’s always “i can do all things through Christ” – if i see it on the back of someone’s shirt, as it’s a pretty popular verse for runners, i definitely try to keep them in my sights for a reminder!

  3. “The true but rare runner’s high is a zone that we enter when everything seems to click perfectly, when time stands still, and when we can run almost without effort.”–Amby Burfoot. I just love this quote- very true!

  4. You’re going to be amazing! You’ve put in all the work and it will pay off 🙂 Just Keep Running is one of the things I repeat in my head too. Courage is another word I like to keep in mind.

  5. I’m running my first marathon at MCM, too! I’m starting to get really excited/nervous now that we’re in the home stretch. My personal mantra throughout training has been “Suck it up, Buttercup!”

  6. Sounds like you had some great rejuvenation workouts. So exciting that it’s only one week away! In my half marathon this past weekend and other races, a mantra that works well for me is sort of a call and response: “You can do this!” And then I mentally respond to that first voice, “I AM doing this!” That shift from “can” to “am” pulls me more into the moment and helps me be my own cheerleader, which makes me want to continue the good work.

  8. I love to turn to scripture for inspiration. I can do all things through God who strengthens me is one of my favorites.

  9. You’ll do great!! All your training will pay off!

When I run and start getting stuck, I say “your body is stronger than your mind thinks you are!”

  10. I found your blog through We Run Disney (Pam & Christine), and I love it! I’m running my first marathon a week after MCM, so I can’t wait to see how it goes for you. I’m orginially from Mercer County, PA (an hour north of Pittsburgh) and it’s great to see a blogger from my stomping grounds. My mantra for my upcoming race is just “stronger.”
