Friday Five: Goals for 2015

Welcome to the first Friday Five of 2015!! I hope you all had safe and happy holidays and are ready to take on the New Year! I’m sure at this point we are all either thinking about how we plan to do just that or are putting plans in motion.Friday Five Goals

So naturally Courtney, Cynthia and I chose Goals for 2015 as our theme this week. And, I’m super excited to see these ladies later on today as we hold another DC Trifecta planning lunch…. mwuahaha!! 2015 is gonna rock y’all!

As for me if you read my “Happy New Year” post yesterday (check it out here if ya missed it) you know I selected “Growth” as my word for the year. My specific goals relate to this in one way or another: growth

ONE: Define my blogging priorities. This is a big one. I also mentioned this in yesterday’s post and since celebrating my 2nd Blogiversary, I’ve done quite a bit of reflection and thinking about where I want my blogging to go and why. Nothing definitive to share with you just yet but we’ll see.

TWO: Stay injury free. To the best of my fitness loving ability! But seriously, I have fallen in love with yoga – hot yoga and sculpt in particular – and am making it a significant part of my active recovery and cross training activities.

THREE: Run a sub-2 hour half marathon. This is my ONE significant running focus this year (outside of no injuries of course). I mentioned this as a carry over to 2015 in my Reflections post last week. I’ve already started training for Shamrock, which is my target race, and speed work is a prominent and important area to help me get there.

FOUR: Be more present. This ties in a bit with #1. Life is what you make of it and I really want to focus on quality experiences and living fully in each moment. This means less time on my “smart” phone and managing social media and perhaps less blogging, more in person interaction with friends, meeting new people, practicing kindness, and overall just being “present”. Look for my blog post on this very topic soon on the ClassPass blog series this month “Blogging for a Healthier Happier You!”

AND LASTLY, the under tone to all of these goals. I mentioned many, many months ago I made a decision to go back to school. I didn’t offer much in the way of details at the time as I was sorting a few personal (and financial) things out BUT I am now in a position to say that I have been accepted in to the Certificate in Health Coaching program at Georgetown University (!!) starting this spring. And I am really, really excited. Learning

  1. Shamrock is a great race for a PR and hopefully you will see Christine that weekend. I don’t think she has signed up yet, but she certainly will be there cheering if she does not race! Congrats on your acceptance to Georgetown. That is awesome news and what an exciting spring you will have back in school.

  2. Great goals! I have similar thoughts about my blog. I’m not ready to fully stop blogging yet but I question the time I spent blogging (reading and writing). Right now I would rather read a good book or spent quality time with my daughter. I find myself too often to check my phone while spending time with her.

    1. Yep, just need to define what is of utmost importance to me and focus my efforts there. I”d rather blog than deal with FB, Pinterest, etc. All about finding the calm in the chaos.

  3. How exciting! Best of luck with school and have a wonderful time! I just passed my 2-year mark with my blog and am ready for some changes too. Maybe most bloggers get the two-year-itch! Here’s to a wonderful 2015!

  4. All great, but I think #4 is especially so important. Life is short, and being present is key for me to appreciate & experience all that life offers. It’s something I strive for too. Congrats on your school plans!

  6. growth, being present, blogging, being injury-free — these are all fab goals, and def resonate with me! i linked up to you guys, but i didn’t put anything measurable about my running on there besides doing another full marathon this year. i would love to hit a 1:45 half marathon one day, but let’s see if this is the year i actually push myself for that. 🙂 happy 2015!

We have a lot of the same goals (sub 2 hour half, being present) and I love that you defined it all with one word, “growth.” I think it’s important to be able to go back to a mantra word like that when you need to refocus or remind yourself that you’re doing the right things and on the right track! 🙂

  8. I love and agree with your first goal. I feel like I’ve gotten away from the reason I started and want to do a bit more with it this year. And I also have the goal of being more present, being less afraid to live and get out there. Also good luck with #2 😀
