Friday Five: What’s in My Fitness Closet?!

Happy Friday! For today’s Friday Five post Cynthia, Courtney and I went with a theme of “What’s in My Gym Bag?!” This is a topic we introduced last spring and had a lot of fun with. Most of what is in my bag hasn’t changed much soΒ you can rediscover that post here. Today I decided to take a few liberties with the topic. Since taking down the holiday decor I’ve been cleaning and streamlining all my “stuff” and look to deliver some donations this weekend. To that end instead of my “Gym Bag” I’m showing you “What’s in My Fitness Closet?!” And in case you’re wondering, I have a walk-in closet on the other side of my bedroom for “real clothes” πŸ˜‰ no neglect going on over here!Mars Fitness Closet

1. Shoes. I’ve finally decided I don’t need 20 pairs of old shoes (ha!) Most of them are in the smaller pre-injury size so don’t fit or are worn. Right now I’m rotating between 3 pairs: Asics Gel Cumulus 16, Brooks Ghost 6, and my trail shoes (perfect for ice and snow!) Asics Gel Venture 4’s.Β

2. Recovery Tools. My Foam Roller is my best friend, particularly after long runs! And the “stick” works wonders for targeted areas. After my injury last year the Moji 360 massager has been a total life saver!Β Recovery

3. Compression Sock Drawer. There is no such thing as too much compression! I’ve tried just about every brand there is but my ultimate favorites are my pair of Vim&VIGR in Nautical Stripes. My Zensah’s and Feetures are a close second.Fitness closet

4. Long Sleeves and Thumbholes. Tell me I’m not the only one who organizes their clothes by length and type? Anyone? Bueller? Fitness_closet marontherun.comWhat I’m loving right now is a magical find from Nordstrom Rack – this Marika running jacket (it was $25!!) which I wore on my 10 miler Sunday.Β

*not me ;)

5. Yoga Mat. I’ve really gotten into Hot Yoga and Sculpt these days so my yoga mat alternates between the closet and the car. I try to wipe it down after a class but bring it home regularly to clean it along with washing myΒ prAna Steadfast Mat Bag (which I love p.s. and by the way). Β

TGIF! Who has a long weekend ahead? Do you have a fitness closet or drawer? What’s in it?!Β

More about Mar on the Run!

      1. lucky for me I do have a walk-in closet that houses everything else. You don’t want to take a peek in that… πŸ™‚

    1. I have an entire fitness section of clothes hanging up in my closet. My shorts have a drawer and so do my tech tees.
      I keep my sneakers separate.
I also have a basket for tech caps, gloves, ear bands, etc…

    1. Your closet looks a lot like mine-except instead of a closet its just the corner of my living room! I love my recovery products and there is no such thing as too much compression! I Also really love long sleeves with thumbholes- if only the weather would stay at appropriate temps for that kind of clothing!

    1. There is definitely no such thing as too much compression. Those socks are so cute! And that closet is better organized than any in my house. πŸ™‚

      1. nope, not at all! Those are my favorite compression socks!! and I’m lazy, if it can’t be hung it just sits there. That’s why it’s all in the closet! πŸ˜‰

      1. They. are. awesome. and it’s a smaller company that makes them but they really are the best I’ve tried – not overly compressed and fashionable!

    1. I think it’s so funny that we have enough fitness clothes to have a dedicated closet! I was thinking about buying The Stick…I bet it hurts so good! My tops are all “folded” on a shelf so I don’t really have them sorted by length, but I probably would do it that way!

    1. I have a fitness drawer, which, I realized last night while doing laundry and trying to shove everything in so the drawer would close, is not cutting it anymore. I’m either going to need to start using a second drawer or just accept my dresser is only for fitness clothes! Haha!

    1. Wow. I’m very impressed. Are you for hire? I love my foam roller too! It has really helped work out some issues. I have been unable to part with any of my running shoes. It’s like they are memories. I need an intervention. πŸ˜‰

      1. It’s because i have so much closet space in my place! the sole reason I moved πŸ˜‰ I’m able to hang virtually everything! and I kinda sorta knew this post was coming πŸ˜‰

    1. Nice score on the jacket! Hmmm, I should do what you did and get rid of my old running shoes…so hard to do though! My house is short on closets so I have a chest of drawers specifically for fitness clothes. I keep it more neat and organized than anything else in my house, ha ha!

    1. First off, I’m super jealous that you have a fitness closet – what a great idea! Also, I agree that you can never have too much compression; I had no idea that Feetures even made compression socks until you mentioned it and I love these striped socks! I’m definitely going to look those up. Don’t you love great bargain buys? That’s a great jacket. Thanks for sharing these and for hosting another fabulous Friday Five; hope you have a great weekend, Mar!

      1. haha, when I was moving and looked at this place, I was sold after seeing the closets. One walk-in and a corner closet I knew could be just for my athletic gear!

    1. That jacket is a great find! And so lucky to have a full closet to store your stuff! I use a hanging sweater organizer in my closet to stack all my pullovers and tanks. I also have a plastic storage drawer that has my workout pants, shirts, and sports bras. I’ve been getting rid of nice clothes to make more room for gym clothes – ha ha!

      1. I know, I am lucky! As soon as I saw the washer/dryer and the second bedroom closet, you didn’t have to tell me twice to move in πŸ™‚ love having a designated space for all of my workout gear!!

    1. My apartment has a walk-in closet so one side has all my running gear, except the winter stuff. That is packed up most of the year and I’ll pull it out if I need it. My foam roller is in the front closet so I have easy access to it from the living room.

    1. ME! I organize my closet first by length, then by type, and finally by color. So long sleeves button downs go together and are organized by colors of the rainbow (ROYGBIV) b/c I’m OCD about my closet apparently. It never sounded weird to me until I just typed it out here haha

      1. atta girl! I try to vary the colors though. I have so many black shirts I need to add color in between them so they don’t get lost!

      1. I do have a separate basket of head gear and gloves as well. And I cur re ntky can’t find my fav pair of etip gloves from last winter. Agh!

    1. You are definitely not alone in your clothes organization! In my closet, I organize by type, length, and color (OCD, anyone?). Then, of course, I have a separate drawer each for running socks, tech shirts, and pants. I always ask myself if I really need all of my stuff–and the answer is always yes! Anything to stay motivated! πŸ™‚

    1. My entire closet is fitness gear. I have a few items of regular clothing but I never wear them. It’s really sad, I used to be pretty fashionable. I’ve fallen into the mom stereotype and all I wear is yoga pants…I promised myself I would t do that. It’s a good thing workout clothes are stylish these days πŸ™‚

    1. I organize my clothes by type, and then color within each type. BTW, I love your new Nordstrom find!

I’ve been a major cleaning mood lately, too. I added three shelving units to our storage room on Thursday afternoon, night, and into Friday morning. That’s why I didn’t get my Friday Five post written until this morning! πŸ™‚

      1. I’ve been in such a cleaning frenzy too! Just today I went through all my closets and boxed up more stuff for donating!

    1. I love your stuff – I need a better more organized place, especially with all the gear I’m getting for tri. I started using drawers in my dresser and they’re full too! Okay, that jacket from Nordstrom Rack – do you think they still have it in stock???

      1. hmm, not sure. It was a couple weeks ago I bought it in the downtown store. There were only 3 I could find and had to rummage through a few racks to get my size!

    1. Most of my fitness stuff hangs out in my closet along with my scrubs, jackets, and all other clothing. I don’t have a dresser, so I had to get a little creative with hanging storage bins + those wire cube things that you get from Target! πŸ˜›
