Happy Sunday! I hope you all have had a marvelous weekend so far. One of the things I love about living in DC is how accessible health, education and fitness is. Between studying for my Health Coach Certification at Georgetown and getting direct tips on the latest health news and events, there’s no reason for me (or you!) not to get my healthy on! May is just around the corner and the weather is warming up so today I’m sharing a couple of local healthy happenings:
Thursday, April 30:
Unfortunately I am out of town so unable to go (and really disappointed by that!) but join Rock Recovery THIS Thursday, April 30 for their signature event “Building Bridges: Living an Integrated Life” featuring a panel of experts (including Anne Mauney, RD from fANNEtastic Food and Angelica Talan of Clarendon Moms) who will discuss the importance of cultivating emotional, physical and spiritual wellness across personal and professional roles. Tips to promote self-care will be provided to help audience members learn how to create not only a balanced life, but an integrated one. Opening and closing receptions will provide additional opportunities for networking and making personal connections. Cost is $55 for the next 24 hours, then $65 until April 30th. Use code MarontheRun for a 20% discount.
Now this is an event I will be in town for and looking forward to attending. And it’s FREE! The Roll Up Your Sleeves! Health Expo on Saturday, May 9 is presented by the American Medical Group Foundation and its Measure Up/Pressure Down® campaign. This afternoon event will feature a rockstar list of speakers – including the Personal Trainer to the First Family, Cornell McClellan who will be sharing his fitness journey and tips for attendees. Also speaking is Chef LaLa, an internationally known chef and nutritionist who has been featured on the TODAY Show, Good Morning America, and a host of other shows, to speak about healthy eating. There will be Q&A and a chance to meet the speakers. (I’m totally asking Cornell about Michelle Obama’s arms!)
Other highlights of the Expo:
- Free fitness demonstrations – In partnership with the Y, there will be nine fitness and yoga classes offered at no cost – attend as many as you like!
- Giveaways – Attendees will have chances to win one of many items generously donated by local health and fitness studios in the area including but not limited to: memberships/passes to Balance Gym, Boating in DC, ClassPass, Off Road Indoor Cycling, Reformation Fitness, RIDE DC, The Studio DC and gift cards to Cava Grill and Whole Foods Market P Street. I hear there could be some local race entries given away too… hmmm… intrigued yet?!
I hope you are able to attend at least one of these events. Total health and wellness is so important and I’m happy to see DC committed to it through these various organizations and events.
Who will I see on May 9? Tell me you want to hear about Michelle Obama’s arms 🙂 What other DC healthy happenings can you share?
