Sunday Funday at Athleta & Workout Recap

Happy Memorial Day!! I hope everyone has had a great long weekend thus far and don’t forget to honor in some way those servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much for our country. This day is truly about them! Monument

I’m starting things off with a weekly recap of workouts. Since leaving my job a couple of weeks ago I’ve forced myself into some self imposed downtime. It was necessary and having the time has been magnificent! So… every day has felt like a weekend at this point 😉 . Regardless, it’s been a good holiday weekend and a strong week of working out! I’ve been able to rest and have a little more noticeable energy since starting on the Vitamin D supplements:

  • Monday: 5 mile run
  • Tuesday: Tribe Team Training @ MintDC
  • Wednesday: 3 mile run + Yoga Sculpt w/Weights @ Core Power
  • Thursday: REST
  • Friday: Tribe Team Training @ MintDC
  • Saturday: 7 mile run + 2 mile walk
  • Sunday: Yoga @ Athleta Georgetown

Now, about that Yoga at Athleta! Along with several fellow Sweat Pink Ambassadors (SPA) in the DC, MD, VA area we belong to a private group on Facebook for us locals to stay in touch. The group had been fairly quiet but recently we decided to try and be more active in it. I reached out to Athleta a few weeks ago to inquire about partnering with them for a potential ambassadors meetup and/or fitness class and the stars aligned! AthletaGtown

They secured a fabulous yoga instructor for us, Cathy Trenary from Yoga Del Sol, and held a private shopping event before the store opened followed by class (smart idea to shop first because… sweat factor). This was great and gave people a chance to arrive at their leisure. We had light refreshments, mingled a bit and shopped with a special discount we were given. I did my best to control my wallet 🙂 #reallynotreally Athleta

Class began at 10:30 am and Cathy was wonderful! The group varied in their yoga practice but she guided us through the hour with ease, providing modifications throughout the practice. It was a great workout and for me post 7-miler, a wonderful stretch. While some of us already knew each other…

Hey Jenny!

Hey Jenny!

Hey Cynthia!

Hey Cynthia!

…I finally met Courtenay and Alexis in person and other members of the group got acquainted.

Courtenay, Alexis

From L to R: Courtenay @ Running w/Perseverance; Erica @ MCM Mama; Alexis @ Flecks of Lex; Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner; me; Jenny @ Run Jenny Run; Kathryn @ From Dancing to Running; Cynthia @ You Signed Up For What?!; Colleen @ Live Free and Run

Following class the store had opened but we were able to finish our shopping and gabbing before all heading out on our way – completely energized for the day! I’m sure this won’t be the last time we get together but it was a FUN time and it was great to connect with local friends and fitness bloggers! A big, HUGE THANK YOU to Athleta Georgetown for hosting us!! A good time was definitely had by all! DMV SPA group yoga

  1. That looks like a fun event! I used to love Athleta (in the old days, before they were purchased by the Gap). I still like them, but over time the feel has changed (and possibly my style as well) so I usually get a few pieces from them but not every season. Hope you have a nice Memorial Day.

    1. it was great Sue! we’ll definitely have something again more folks can attend. Timing can just be difficult with so many people and when you’re coordinating with an organization. Hope you had a great weekend!

  2. I’m so glad y’all were able to meet up like this, Mar; what fun! I’m so jealous! Sounds like you had a wonderful week of training, too, which is fantastic; you’re doing great. Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; happy to hear your Memorial Day weekend was a success!
