The difference between the first and second weeks of June were like night and day. Whereas the start of the month was cold, stormy, lazy and gray – last week was hot, humid and full of activity. First up the week in workouts:
- Monday: Flywheel (read my recap of the studio here)
- Tuesday: 2.5 mile run
- Wednesday: FlyBarre (recap)
- Thursday/Friday: REST
- Saturday: Pure Barre
- Sunday: 3.1 mile walk
As you can see very little running (again) but a handful of other good workouts. My 10K training starts in earnest this week! Speaking of which I never announced which race I’m running. Initially I had my eye on a small local race in Delaware. That is until I was able to secure a transfer bib for the Beach 2 Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth, Maine!! Um, yay. More on this to come!
Thursday and Friday were workout days of rest as I attended my health coaching class for June which was Health Coaching Skills I (Skills II is next month!) We are getting so much good information to help us become better coaches and work with clients. There is a lot of in class practice and in addition to learning about coaching others, I am learning so much about myself which is an amazing feeling. As exhilarating as class is – it’s also exhausting. We pack a lot into 2 full days plus the client work, study and prep. By Friday at 5 pm I was toast but luckily my cohort is awesome and we use the close of Friday to hit up happy hour and celebrate another class accomplishment!
I could only stay briefly though because I needed to get out of the city and head to Reston, VA for the launch party of LifeFuels who had recently spotlighted Mar on the Run as one of 5 Best Female Lifestyle Blogs (thanks!!) I had never heard of them before this post but was so appreciative of the shout out! I did a little research and found they were a local health technology start up in super stealth mode developing a “connected device that will simplify control of your health by helping you discover new ways to enhance what you consume.” Color me intrigued.
For weeks I’ve been racking my brain and checking their Facebook and Twitter sites for any clues as to what they could be creating that would change the health and wellness game. Friday night the wait was finally over when we headed to their offices for the big reveal. When I arrived there was a great spread of hot foods, open bar, desserts and video screens.
At 7 pm the wait was finally over. We heard from CEO Jonathon Perrelli and others on the the leadership team. After a brief video presentation we were introduced to LifeFuel’s Personal Fueling System™:
This connected water bottle takes what you use to fuel yourself throughout the day or recover from your workout and with multi or single use fuel pods allows you to track what you consume. It works alongside an app or the digital screen to deliver fuel from the fuels pods at the right time. It’s cordless and wireless and dare I say, genius! Right now it’s available on pre-order from the LifeFuels website for $99 (and not available for shipping until Fall 2015). After weeks of wondering and waiting I was really surprised at the final product and was honored to have been a part of its introduction to the health and wellness community.
The rest of the weekend was pretty low key as I tried not to binge watch Orange is the New Black 🙂 Saturday morning I checked out Pure Barre in Cathedral Commons which celebrates its grand opening today. They were offering limited free classes for friends and family on Saturday and Sunday. I’ll recap this experience for you in the next couple of days.
Sunday I just tried to catch up on sleep! After winning an entry into the Skirt Sports Virtual 13er there was no way a half marathon was happening so I opted to take on the 5K. Instead of a run I braved the heat (but sported my Skirt Sports running skirt!) and walked around the neighborhood getting my miles in and running a few errands. I love that DC is such a walkable city… and that sky yesterday!
All in all a pretty good week. Linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for her Weekend Update linkup! go check her and others out. How was your weekend?
