Epic Road Trip Adventures!

July went out with an epic bang as I embarked on a 7+ day road trip up and down the east coast. I had no real vacation planned for the summer so decided to use the time before and after Beach 2 Beacon (recap coming soon!) to just gas up the car and GOOOOO!

First Stop – New York City

My time here was brief, just overnight in Harlem to catch up with a friend, but it was a beautiful 24 hours in the city. Hello, Hudson…  Hudson marontherun.com

Second Stop – Boston

It is always great to go “home” again. Of course, driving around the city I am reminded why I would never move back. I’ve gotten used to people being just a tad nicer down south 😉 . My time in Boston was spent traipsing through my old stomping grounds at Harvard…

Third Stop – Maine

I departed Boston Friday morning to head to Maine with Freeport as my first destination. I was meeting up with Lisa, Colleen, and Kara at Lisa’s family’s house along the Atlantic. Maine marontherun.comWe went kayaking – my first time EVER – and hey I didn’t die or get eaten by a shark! 😉 It was SO much fun and great cross training! The way out was tough since I have never done this before and had to get the hang of steering with the paddles but on the way back I felt like a pro!Maine kayak marontherun.com

We then docked on this little island across the ocean waters and enjoyed the small beach before heading back to the house for lunch and um, CUPCAKES!! Thanks Colleen and Kara! Being a Pisces I am truly a water baby; it soothes my soul. Seriously, this is my happy place and being with such great people made for a remarkable day!Maine girls marontherun.com

After a full afternoon I left for my hotel in South Portland to relax then pick up my bib for the Beach 2 Beacon 10K on Saturday morning. I’ll have a full recap on the race later this week. It ended up being an unusually hot day for Maine which was a bit ugh but the course and finish line views did not disappoint.

Fourth Stop – Latrobe, PA

Following the race the most epic part of my weeks travels happened as I drove just over 10 hours to meet my girls for our 4th annual visit to Steelers Women’s Training Camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. Oh my goodness. Amazing.  SteelersCamp marontherun.com

We went through drills, had full service breakfast, lunch and dinner (ahem, steak dinner – my favorite part!), met alumni players Antwaan Randle El, Kimo von Oelhoeffen (aka the guy who broke Carson Palmer – sorry Bengals fans!), Jason Gildon, Matt Pahr and Gerry Mullins as well as current players Ryan Shazier #50 and Vince Williams #98. They always give us a hearty amount of swag as well: Training Camp t-shirts, hats and the 2015 Steelers Yearbook.  trainingcampshirt marontherun.com

SteelersLadiesCamp marontherun.comWe laughed, we joked, we got yelled at by Antwaan – bwahahaha for talking of course – and simply had the time of our lives. For most of our group we only see each other once a year and this day is something we look forward to for 364 of them. We are now giddy with excitement for football season! I left on a complete and total high, sore as hell and tired as anything but it. was. all. so. worth. it.

Following camp it’s a couple of downtime days with the folks in Pittsburgh then back to DC! I am so blessed to have so many good friends in my life who opened their homes to me, shared many (many!) laughs and made this such a fun and memorable week. One of the best vacations EVER! As if it couldn’t get any better, as seen on my drive… Road Sky marontherun.com

  1. Many yrs ago we lived in VT & my husband loves lobster – what do you think? We visited ME a lot when we lived there. And went back after my NH half a couple of yrs ago. I’m hoping to do a half there next spring/summer.

Our epic trips usually revolve around my halfs. But we have no summer vacation. 🙁 we were going to have a nice little getaway around my 10k next week but now I’ve had to cancel due to IT. 🙁
