Workout Highlights + Adventures in Annapolis

Happy Monday! I’ve only been posting a couple times a week as I enjoy the remains of summer but will be back to somewhat of a regular schedule after Labor Day. That and my computer finally said hey, hey, hey gooooodbye! My adventures in technology have been mildly annoying. In any event, it’s a new week but today I’m recapping some workout highlights from the past week and a fabulous weekend day trip to Annapolis!

The week of workouts started off strong with a little lunch time Body Pump followed by an evening Yoga class at the Kennedy Center. Say what?! Yes, and it was fabulous! 20150824_175747Millenium Stage

It was a Pop Up Yoga class provided free by the Spread Love DC Initiative and Yoga Heights DC. The backdrop of Millenium Stage and the unique chandeliers made for such a Zen experience. It was also nice to spend this time with classmates and friends. We all felt the love and the om after this session 🙂 It’s so great that DC has so many opportunities for free workouts around the city!  SpreadLoveDC

Speaking of free in DC, Wednesday I hit up the Georgetown Waterfront for a leisurely 3 miles. It was initially a rest day but I couldn’t pass up running in 70 degree weather with low humidity — at 1 pm!! Almost unheard of in DC in August. I forgot how lovely it is to just run for the sake of running with no training plan involved and again – this backdrop… Georgetown Waterfront

Thursday evening I was jonesing for a little intensity so headed to Urban Athletic Club with my man Jake (I’ve missed you!) for the Urban Athlete class: UrbanAthlete

I love how class is split between 2 halves and a half time with varying exercises. Naturally it was tough and I sweated (a lot) but always, always worth it.

For some reason I thought it would be fun to do Body Combat the day after this workout, followed up by leg day. Oof. By Saturday I was ready for a rest day though can’t say I really “rested”. In the a.m. I had a 3 hour coaches training with Girls on the Run DC (yay! excited for the season to start) and afterwards met up with my Georgetown peeps to head to Annapolis for a fun road trip, lunch and girls day out to enjoy Maryland’s capital city.  Annapolis Waterfront

Annapolis marontherun.comOne of my colleagues has a new Yoga studio space in the heart of Annapolis so we visited there on our sightseeing tour. We couldn’t fit it in this trip but I’m looking forward to taking a class there! If you are ever in the DC/MD area get yourself to Capital Yoga Studio in Annapolis stat – Amy is amazing!!! After our little walking tour we said our goodbyes and headed back to DC. We may or may not have turned on Celine Dion radio and sang power ballads the entire trip home. Seriously, I love these people. A good time was definitely had by all and Annapolis is such a warm and happy place!

The week in workouts was capped off by a mid morning event in Reston on Sunday. Courtney invited me along to try out Pound at the Reston Town Center Pavilion. Pound with Athleta marontherun.comIt was sponsored by Athleta Reston and Reston Town Center who she had a special invitation from. We were treated to a couple new yoga mats, some gift cards for area shops and an amazingly sweaty class. Whew! The instructor was high energy and with her music selection I was jammin’!! I’ve taken Pound once before – at the Gold’s Gym anniversary media event several weeks back – but it was a great workout!

A couple non workout highlights of the week included being named an Ultima Replenisher ambassador – my favorite fueling drink of choice – and being accepted as a SheKnows Experts Among Us by Blogher and SheKnows Media. Extra great news to counter my technology blues!

Overall it was a terrific week of workouts infused with some summer fun. Can’t believe we are winding down! Try any new workouts lately? How was your weekend?

    1. you really can’t! And you don’t have to spend a lot of money, contrary to what a lot of people think. The free resources are endless! So… when you coming to visit?

    1. Love Body Combat but I’ve taken it and other variations of kickboxing before. I was such a gym rat before I started running more. Pound is also an amazing workout. With the right instructor the music can make it seem like you aren’t even working out 🙂

  1. I’m so ready for summer to be winding down:/ I need it. There was too much going on and as a result, I had to postpone a lot of things, blogging and running goals being some of them. Sounds like you had a great week of workouts, and the idea of a pop up class is so fun!!!

  2. Ooh, I am so jealous of all of the classes you have access to, yoga, pound etc. I live in the sticks so have limited options and must live vicariously through all of you awesome ladies!!! Looks like you’ve had a great week!
