Fitness Highlights of the Week

How can June be half over already?! I know I keep saying this but time is definitely flying with summer officially starting next week. Today’s Friday Five with Cynthia and Courtney we’re talking favorites. While this week has been filled with so much negativity and sadness, I’ll keep things positive and share a few fun fitness related highlights from my week: Fitness Highlights

Ride with Mar: Last weekend I hosted a blogger ride at Zengo Cycle and it was a blast!  Ride with Mar Zengo marontherun.comRide w. Mar Zengo marontherun.comThis is hands down my favorite indoor cycling studio in the DC area so if you’re local or ever get a chance to visit the city – check this place out. Kendra Scott provided an awesome necklace we gave away and our instructor Alli brought it! Everyone left sweaty and happy. Me? a little too happy ๐Ÿ™‚

Sweaty fitness: a couple weeks ago I checked out a new boutique fitness studio in the area, SweatBox DC. The class I took was intense but pretty amazing. The cardio portion is done on a color zone bike and they recommend taking an orientation session which familiarizes you with the equipment and after a test to measure your power wattage, ends in a personalized number. I was excited to take the test and SweatBox was kind enough to gift me a couple class credits so looking forward to seeing how this changes my workout effort! FTW sweatbox marontherun.comBack to Pump: Now that personal training is done it’s back to Body Pump for me! In the time I’ve been personal training I never made it to any Body Pump classes. I finally went back a couple weeks ago to find they switched up instructors and for the class I take on Tuesday, she’s phenomenal! Her energy and level of assist with the class is great which has made me excited to get back to class again. Sadly I’ve been nursing a headache for the last couple of days so I only made it to one class this week but I’m already looking forward to next week!

Health Coaching at Georgetown: Most of you know I earned my certificate in health coaching from Georgetown University last fall. After some months of discussion I took part in a planning meeting this week and will be part of a team who will bring health coaching services to constituents of the university. It’s still in the early stages but it’s very exciting to be a part of building something from the ground up! Mar at Gtown marontherun.comLord Stanley:

This isn’t my fitness fun but as a big sports fan and supporter of my hometown teams it was super exciting to watch the Penguins win the Stanley Cup this week. I’m not the biggest hockey fan in the world, football is more my sport, BUT you gotta show some love to the ‘burgh!! Now if the Steelers can just win the Super Bowl this year, yeah that’d be great… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Share something positive from your week! Any fun fitness on the horizon? Favorite sports team?

  1. That Sweatbox class sounds intense. I’d love to know more about it.

Believe it or not, I’ve never taken a Body Pump class. I need to get to one and check it out for myself.

  2. I have never heard of Sweat box. You guys seem to get alot of great fitness boutiques in the DC area. I am starting to teach body pump at a new facilty next wk. I hope to bring high energy into my class as well.

  3. Congrats on being part of the health coaching team! So exciting.

We’re heading out on a little day trip today & it looks like the weather will actually cooperate with us!

  4. I’ve never heard of Sweatbox but it sounds really interesting – I love the variety of workouts you’ve been fitting in.. Congrats on the health coaching gig!! Can’t wait to hear more about it.

  5. I’m trying to raise the happiness quotient a little bit myself. CONGRATS on the Georgetown gig! That is fantastic! And great job on your fitness this wee! I would love to do a blogger class at a cycling studio–great idea. Have a great weekend, Mar!

    1. Thank you – it’s exciting! check with FlyWheel – I’m sure they’d be happy to host you! Fitness was fun this week until I got a headache. Those days are the worst days.

  6. How great to have health coaching at school — I hope the students can (and do) take advantage of it. I was shocked when my son came home from college knowing how to make kale chips!

  7. Congrats on Georgetown – so cool! I got to try a bunch of new classes and studios in the last two weeks including Surfset Fitness surfing class, a functional fitness class, Headstrong (mental and physical training) and Pursuit (spin class gamified) at Equinox. Super fun! Lucky blogger weeks!

  8. Not a whole lot of fun on the fitness horizon right now. I’m getting back into running after a post-race break, so that part’s fun. I can take it easy when I need to, or run when I want to.

  9. Oh wow, those tacos look amazing!!! And congratulations on your Georgetown position! I haven’t been there for a long time. Need to plan a visit some time soon!

  10. Looks like some great highlights for the week. Those tacos look delicious. Of course that draw my attention, haha. My sister was going crazy over the Pens win this week. She’s a big fan.

  11. DC seems to have a lot of great gyms! I wish I lived somewhere that had places like that. I would love to take some classes and that sweat box class sounds fun!

  12. Sweatbox sounds super fun!! Maybe I’ll get the chance to try it someday! Glad that your Zengo ride was a success, wish I could have been there!

  13. Those tacos though! MMM! … and as much as it pains me as a Caps fan to say this….congrats to the Pens on winning the Stanley Cup ๐Ÿ™‚
