Happy Friday! Before I get to the heart of today’s Friday Five post I need to start with a little announcement. After three wonderful years of hosting the Friday Five with Cynthia and Courtney, we have made the decision to end the weekly linkup. As with all things in life, the only constant is change but we end on a high note. This week and next week (October 14) will be our final linkup posts both with a “Free Friday” theme.
None of us could have imagined how the Friday Five would grow to create such an incredible community!! I am so grateful to all of you that have posted, visited, or commented over the years. I’m even more grateful that three Octobers ago when Cynthia and I answered Courtney’s call for co-hosts, I have since gained the dear friendship of two pretty amazing people. Thank you for supporting us and each other on the Friday Five journey – it’s been a blast! And while I’m on the subject, go wish Courtney all the lucks as she tackles the Chicago Marathon this weekend!!
Just a few things I’m loving this week:
Feels like fall. The fall weather has been absolutely amazing the past couple of weeks. The air is crisp, the windows are cracked open and I’ve placed my comforter back on the bed. Of course that means runs are much more comfortable as well. It is no secret I am NOT a morning person. I commend anyone who gets up at the crack of a roosters butt to run/workout but that is just not me. So naturally I look forward to fall when I can get my run in mid morning. And one of my favorite places to run is in Rock Creek Park. I had a gorgeous 8 mile long run on Saturday – with some light mist – followed by a smooth 5 miler on Monday in the park.
Days and runs like this always remind me why I’ve loved running. I’ll miss summer but am not mad at this fall weather!
Fall race planning. While on the topic of fall running, after some fits and starts with my training I have finally solidified my race schedule this fall. My next race is the one I’ve been training for – Monster Mash Half in Dover, DE in a few weeks. This will be State #19. After some schedule review I’ve also settled on two more races, the Monumental Half Marathon in Indianapolis for State #20 and the Annapolis Running Classic 10K in late November. A far cry from years past when I loaded up on races but I’m quite happy with these 3 selections!
UP in DC. You guys know I am all about cost effective fitness in DC. Sure I visit various boutique fitness studios and like to try different classes but when an opportunity to workout for free comes along, I love to take advantage. Last month I took a HIIT Yoga class by Lavabarre at the North Face Georgetown and this month TNF offered a Vinyasa Flow led by a Silver Spring, MD based studio opening later this fall called UP. Their tagline is “Healing, Wellness and Adventure” and they will offer classes and workshops in yoga, outdoor adventure, nutrition and more. Erin, the instructor was fabulous so I’m definitely interested in checking it out when it officially opens. Alexis joined me for class which was again followed by a magnificent brunch spread courtesy of Dean and Deluca. YUM!
Pumpkin energy bites. Speaking of yum… I made these earlier this week and they are to die for! I sort of made up a recipe based on a few recipes I’ve seen floating around and what I had on hand. You really can’t go wrong with energy bites, whatever works for you and your taste but I was feeling the pumpkin/fall mode. [ 1 cup oats, 1/4 cup pumpkin, 1/4 cup flaxseed, 1/4 cup peanut butter, 1 tablespoon maple syrup (more or less or add honey per personal preference). Mix thoroughly and refrigerate for 15 minutes. Roll into about 20 1-inch balls and keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator in between snacking!]
This song. If you’re like me you don’t really need an ad to visit Target because… Target. But their commercials are clever and tunes catchy. This one is no exception and I can’t stop singing this song and waiting for the commercial to come on!
**BONUS favorite: I wrote about these SKINS Compression tights last week and have practically been living in them. If you are interested in trying a pair of your own (or any of their other products including those already discounted) here is a 20% off code you can use until October 23: MARONTHERUN-SKINS20
Who else is running Chicago? What’re your plans for the weekend (running or otherwise?) We hope you’ve enjoyed linking up with us for the Friday Five!
